Bug#271434: acknowledged by developer (Re: Bug#271434: kernel 2.6.8 hangs at startup)

I have updated system and tried to install new kernel-image-2.6.8-1-k6 (sarge) and the reported bug remains still the same

pivot_root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init: 426: cannot open dev/console: No such file
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

Confirmed on 2 systems.
Maybe the fix is not in the distribution packages yet?

Installed new kernel image (depending on kernel-image-2.6-k7) and after
restart I get:
