Since upgrading to 2.4.27 (compiled from debian source), I've
experienced frequent crashes is various programs like dpkg, feh, ... The
fact my KDE background turns black after a while is probably also
related to this problem.

I've rebooted in 2.4.26 for now to verify this is indeed a 2.4.27 issue.
