My (luckily not remote) system stopped booting. Probably because I don't
have tmpfs in the kernel?
Upon booting I just get a lot of similar error messages, such as:
/dev/null: not a directory
/dev/fd: not found
etc, and then:
no root system found on /dev/hda1 (/dev/hda1 not a block device)
I can then do an emergency login, remount the root partition rw, and
throw out every mount in mountvirtfs and udev, which fixes the problem.
I don't know which package installed udev, but either way, I think it's
not very healthy my system stops booting without any warning. I've read
/usr/share/doc/udev/README.Debian.gz, which contains some explanation,
but not quite enough to make me feel at ease about non-booting systems.
I would be happy if you could find a way not to let this happen.
