Yes, I added it to the title after finding out :).  Michael Setzer
wrote, that adding 
  MODULE ide-generic
  MODULE ide-disk
to /etc/yaird/Default.cfg makes it work.  I could boot with that, but
DMA was disabled.  I found out that manually adding piix reenables DMA
for me, so I meant "yes it works, no need to install initramfs-tools,
but piix is not loaded and that disables my DMA".

No need to excuse (but appreciated of course).  Any idea though why piix
is not loaded?  The patch from Erik seems to care for ide-generic only
(and assumes that piix is loaded I guess).
