Package: kernel-source-2.4.26
Version: 2.4.26-2
Severity: important

------------------------------------------------------------
1) Install Woody base system, and proposed update package
	kernel-image-2.4.24-2-386
The system has a
	Highpoint RocketRAID 133 PCI card
	(firmware 2.35)
controller, which is handled by
	hpt366.o
	hptraid.o
Booting system uses initrd, and loads modules in this order:
	ide-disk
	hpt366
	ide-detect
	hptraid

2) Create RAID1 array in controller's BIOS
with disks:
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3120026A (3.06 firmware)
(ATA100 devices = working normally in udma5 mode)

	/dev/hde
	/dev/hdg
which become
	/dev/ataraid/d0
whole disk device
------------------------------------------------------------

SYSTEM works fine with this RAID 1 array, but when
we do

# cd
# cat /proc/ide/hpt366

and then e.g.

# pwd

THESE MESSAGES APPEAR:
======================
hdg: DMA disabled
hdg: drive not ready
ide3: reset: success
	or
hdg: timeout waiting for DMA
======================

ACTUALLY, IT SEEMS second disk in the array SPINS DOWN
as if going to standby mode.

CONSEQUENCES ARE CATASTROPHIC, system freezes
and if we somehow manage to type a command
(e.g. on the SMP system) like

	init 0

it fails, and filesystem gets, so badly damaged
it is practically impossible to repair
------------------------------------------------------------

SEEMS LIKE A KERNEL BUG?

Noticed, the same crash does NOT happen
when using disks in non-RAID mode

# cat /proc/ide/hpt366

does not do any damage.

------------------------------------------------------------
Note: CRASH happens also
	with kernel
		2.4.26
	(kernel-image-2.4.26-1-386 package)

Version: 2.4.27-1

The code in question looks like this in 2.4.27.
Whith this in mind, it seems impossible for the code-path
that caused this bug to be executed, and I am closing it accordingly.
