One purchases a DVD writer, but it is still called a DVD reader here:
$ dmesg | grep -i dvd
hdc: PHILIPS DVDR1648P1, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: ATAPI 126X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)

lshw below proves that the Philips is a writer, but above one sees that all it
is is a ROM.

                          ^^^^^ ^^^^^^^
See the "DVD-R" and "CD-R/RW" strings? That means it's a writer. The "DVD-ROM"
string also means it's a reader of course.
So there's no bug, I'm closing it.

Dan,

You file a large amount of bugs that are either not really bugs or trivial
fixes. If you really want to help can you spend a little more time on a
problem determining if it's really a bug before submitting and in the cases
where you do, include patches to fix the problems you're reporting?

Thanks,
