I interpret "type of mount" as "read-write, readonly or whatever
is the default on this system" (not to be confused with "type of
filesystem to be mounted").

And I see it as sane for this option to be mandatory mandatory.

If options are by definition optional then what is the proper word for
"options" that are mandatory? Mandates? Naah...
