2.6.8-2 fails to boot on Opteron machine.

Hi!

I have a Opteron box which fails to boot any of the sarge 2.6
kernels I've tried. 2.4.27-2-386 boots and runs fine, but neither
2.6.8-2-386, 2.6.8-2-k7 nor 2.6.8-2-amd64-k8 boots.

I'm running standard sarge, not the unofficial amd64 port. I don't
need 64 bit support for this server, so I figured I'd go with the
official distribution.

There is no kernel crash when I try to boot, instead the kernel just
stops at:

Uncrompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.

The motherboard is a Tyan K8S (S2850G2N) w. one Opteron 240 1.4GHz and
512MiB of memory. 

The same problem occurs with both GRUB and LILO.

Any ideas? How can I debug this?
