Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-11-em64t-p4
Version: 2.6.8-14

There is apparently something wrong with the -em64t-p4 branch.

I have a freshly installed Sarge system. After switching from the
installer-kernel to the -em64t one, iptables just gives up and produces
the following output:

iptables v1.2.11: can't initialize iptables table `filter': Module is
wrong version

This bug applies both to kernel-image-2.6.8-11-em64t-p4 as well as
kernel-image-2.6.8-11-em64t-p4-smp.

This problem is also reported by Sebastian Filippini here:

Hi, this is a known problem with iptables when you have
a 64bit kernel and a 32bit userspace. It is being tracked as
#298155.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=298155

I believe that it is reasons like this that the pure64 apprioach is
prefered these days. That is available at amd64.debian.org.

I also believe there are patched patckages floating about to
address this problem, and at the very least there is a patch at the
URL above. Unfortunately as I understand it, its a difficult problem
to solve without breaking 32bit user-space 32-bit kernel systems,
which are common to say the least.

I'm closing this bug as its really a duplicate of 298155.
Please post to that bug if you want to continue discussion
of this issue. I have addid it, Sebastian Filippini, and the
recipients of his message to the CC list of this one.
