Sounds cool, but most people here don't want to touch mkinitrd.  It's a
fragile script that tends to break easily.  My suggestion would be to
either talk to the people who aren't afraid to break initrd-tools (Jeff
Bailey comes to mind), or start looking at integrating this into the
initramfs toolset, which we'll most likely switch to (replacing
initrd-tools) at some point in the future.
