Package: kernel-source-2.6.11
Version: 2.6.11-2

During a half hour, my system became completely irresponsive. As far as
I understand the messages in /var/log/kern.log, the kernel ran out of
memory. In that time, I wasn't able to close any program, nor log in on
a textconsole. There continously was harddiskactivity. After 30 minutes
my keyboard and mouse also hanged. The system had an uptime of 22 hours.

sorry but we can't support self compiled kernel.
please upgrade to latest stock linux image 2.6.12
also run a memtest overnight to be sure your mem is ok.
