Package: udev
Version: 0.053-1
Severity: important

I have an Intel 2200-based wireless card, and need to use the module
sources provided as a debian package. Recently, the card stopped
working, sending the following messages to my logs:

Mar 5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.0.1
Mar 5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel Corporation
Mar  5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:02:03.0[A] -> GSI 7 (level, low) -> IRQ 7
Mar 5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Mar 5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ipw2200: ipw-2.2-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2
Mar 5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE
Mar 5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ipw2200: failed to register network device
Mar 5 13:05:54 midas kernel: ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:03.0 failed with error -5

I had updated the source package and recompiled the module several days
prior, so I installed the previous version. No luck. I know that
firmware loading is done through hotplug, so I also went several
versions back on that to no avail. Googling the problem, I saw someone
mentioning that udev could be a potential cause. Sure enough, rolling
back to 0.053-1 solves the problem entirely.

I've tried both 0.054-1 and 0.054-2, and both result in the same
problem.

     closes: Bug#297481, Bug#299154
/sbin/hotplug may have potential problem in hotplug event multiplexing,
but /sbin/udevsend has grave problem in firmware loading in old kernel,
so I add workaround fix to this.
Recommends upgrade kernel 2.6.10 or later.
