Thanks, that does sound a lot like a kernel problem,
though I am also not sure if it is a bug or a feature.

I will take a look into it, though I note that
the bug was found on a 2.6.7-c3v2full kernel. 
The kernel team does not maintain sources for
2.6.7 any more, it might be worth trying a newer
version of the kernel to see if the problem still
manifests.
