Hi! I get the same problem with the 2.6.8-9-amd64-k8 and 2.6.9-1-k7 kernel. In my case I have this problem on an Athlon64 box with an NForce3 mobo and SATA discs running grub. I havent tried any 2.6 kernel from debian yet since it is an knoppix install but the knoppix kernels (2.6.7 and 2.4.27) work fine. I will try some of the tips here and let you know more.
