Bug#283785: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686: 2.6.8-10 fails to load many modules, "Unknown symbol" and "disagrees about version of" errors

Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686
Version: 2.6.8-10
Severity: important

Hi!

Since the last upgrade of my Sarge machine (which bought in version
2.6.8-10 of kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686) I'm unable to load a couple of
modules. For example e100, mousedev, rtc, parport_pc, irda and a lot of
others.

They complain about "Unknown symbol foo" or "disagrees about version
of symbol bar".

I attached the entries of /var/log/messages during boot, hope it helps.

The System is a Compaq Armada E500 notebook with a Pentium III
Processor, most modules are loaded via hotplug.

If you need further Information, I have that kernel still installed,
while working with kernel-image-2.6.8-1-386 (of the same Version), which
works fine.

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander
