Re: Bug#280112: Certain IDE drivers need the help of ide-generic to recognize CD-ROMs
I have the same issue on my workstation, but with a VIA chipset:
0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C693A/694x [Apollo
PRO133x] (rev c4)
0000:00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C598/694x [Apollo
MVP3/Pro133x AGP]
0000:00:04.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc.
VT82C586A/B/VT82C686/A/B/VT823x/A/C PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 06)
This is using kernel 2.6.8-1-686-smp on debian sarge (version 2.6.8-5).
I have one SCSI disk to boot from with the root filesystem and a DVD
burner as /dev/hda. I need to load ide-generic in order for /dev/hda to
be found. via82cxxx and ide_core are loaded on boot.
Should I follow the advice found here ?
