Bug#278504: kernel-image-2.4.26-1-386: piix module breaks access to ATAPI devices
Package: kernel-image-2.4.26-1-386
Version: 2.4.26-2
Severity: normal
I've got this problem now on two computers running Debian unstable.
On the first computer I couldn't access the CDROM device, and
on this computer I get "write errors" when I try to tar to the
device /dev/nht0, which is a HP COLORADO 8GB streamer.
I could solve this problem just by removing the piix.o module
out of the /lib/modules tree and building a new initrd using
mkinitrd. After a reboot the piix module is not loaded anymore
and the access to the IDE devices (CDROM and Colorado streamer)
works perfectly.
