Bug#277835: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686: USB connection attempts give no result (works in 2.6.7)

Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686
Version: 2.6.8-4
Severity: normal

Recently installed a sarge system, and the X server works fine with the
usb mouse, using /dev/input/mice. The mouse is shown in lsusb. I then
unplugged the mouse and plugged it into another usb port. The
disconnection was logged on the console, but nothing was shown on the
connection of the mouse. Reinserting the mouse in the original port did
not work either.

On reboot, the mouse was again detected, but connecting/disconnecting it
resulted in the same problem.

A usb storage device (pen drive), whether plugged in at startup or
otherwise, does not appear in lsusb at all.

I am currently using kernel 2.6.7 (debian package) since this problem
does not appear to occur with this earlier kernel, for either usb
device.

Let me know if you need any more information.
