Yes I am. Processes 'acpid' and 'kacpid' are both running. My BIOS is old
and I have to pass acpi=force as a kernel boot-parameter to enable it.

Hmmm... Interesting. At the moment I have to start up, wait until my box
heats up a little and then reboot in order to get the fan working. From
then on the fan stays on until I shut down again. The BIOS doesn't start
it going on first boot because it has had all night to cool.

Even with the fan running, it feels a little warm :-/

> [can] you replicate it?

I don't particularly want to replicate it!!! It's bound to do some damage eventually.
It was probably just luck that it didn't do any damage this time. I can't remember if
the fan was running but I know that I was compiling it inside Emacs but I can't
believe that would make much difference. I'll have another go, while the fan is
running, and run a script session just in case.

The more I think about it, the more I think you're right. It must have overheated.
Before I try again, can you tell me which modules I should include?
Even if it doesn't overheat with the fan running, I don't want to have to keep
doing it over and over again.

Thanks for you help.
