Bug#287970: instalation on SATA drive and Kernel Panic
Package: kernel-image-2.6.9-1-686-smp
Version: 2.6.9-3
Hi,
I install 2.6.9 kernel from Debian on 2.6.27 kernel. While booting kernel 2.6
after sucsesfull instalation I have "Kernel panic" error (because cannot open
dev/console).
Solution: I change drive identifation in /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab
from /dev/hddX (use by kernel 2.4) to /dev/sdaX (2.6 see my hdd as SCSI
device). And system booting and working correctly.
Notice: When I use update-grub in new menu.lst file is not working
"root=/dev/hdd5" kernel's options instead of working "root=/dev/sda5".
booloader: grub 0.95+cvs20040624-10
matherboard: Gigabyte GA-8GPNXP Duo (sata controler: ICH6)
disk: Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus 200 GB 8M ATA/150
Thanks,
