Bug#284952: Confirming this and raising severity

severity 284952 grave
thanks

Hi,

I can confirm this bug. Note that things are fine after the USB key is
unmounted but before it is physically unplugged. The freeze happens the
moment it is physically removed. This is with kernel-image-2.6.9-powerpc
version 2.6.9-3, udev 0.050-2, hal 0.4.2-5, hotplug 0.0.20040329-1, and
gnome-volume-manager 1.1.2-5. No such problem occurs with kernel 2.6.8.

After a few minutes of being frozen, my laptop rebooted automatically.
Don't know if this was done by the kernel or by OpenFirmware. I'm
upping the severity to "grave" since there will be data loss in any
programs running when the freeze/reboot happens.

Oh, my hardware is an iBook G3 700 MHz (dual USB, white), in case it
makes any difference.

regards,
