Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

The prebuilt kernel image fails to boot on our Dell PowerEdge 2650 servers.
The error we get is /dev/console not found and init failed.

Infact, I tried a fresh install using the debian-installer CD, and
things went fine till the partition step, where the installer aborted
saying:

No partitionable media found. Please check that a hard disk is attached
to this machine.

Note that this was with the linux26 option -- with the linux24 option,
the install goes fine and the system boots okay. After that I
installed the latest kernel-image-2.6.8 and it also failed to boot,
so I'm guessing there is some issue with the Debian patches/config
options to 2.6.8.

Here are some more details:

Linux gamp.ucsd.edu 2.6.8.1-xen0 #2 Mon Oct 25 12:20:13 PDT 2004 i686
GNU/Linux
(right now we're running a Xen enabled 2.6.8 kernel)
