Hi, I had the same problem. My .config runs fine with 2.6.7. Under 2.6.9 with vesafb compiled into the kernel, I dont saw anything at boot, and in dmesg was nothing about vesafb. If you compile it as module and load it with initrd, it work. After i removed the modular-vesafb.dpatch it work also when i compile it into the Kernel.
