Package: kernel-image-2.6.6
Version: 5:123.Custom
Severity: important
Since I use Kernel 2.6 (any of the sub-versions between 2.6.0 to 2.6.6) some
programs freeze for approx. 1 minute on certain actions. Most annoying is,
that any mozilla-based programs delay (mostly) each time a new URL is
entered or a link is clicked.
The CPU load is 0% of that particular process in that while, but the window
doesn't respond to redraw, mouse, keyboard, ... events.
executing galeon with
# strace -ff galeon
most often it holds at
futex(0x86f5d0c, FUTEX_WAIT, 2499, {6, 832910000}
or
poll(
in one of the various process IDs running in parallel.
Sometimes even during loading a site it holds. Viewing other tabs doesn't
work, because the window "hangs".
Oddly enough this happens very often when waiting for answers from the DNS
server.
When using the environment variable
# export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
the same behaviour appears.
GDM (or starting a GNOME session) has the same problem. When I log in with
the newest available GDN running a 2.6 kernel, the GNOME flash window pops
up. Then FVWM starts (including its FvwmPager). But then there is a break of
at least 1 minute. Only when this break is over, GNOME continues to start as
usual. This also happens only with Kernel 2.6.
Probably this problem also relates to GLIBC (I use 2.3.2)
