Comments/Problems:
While the CD booted OK, and the initial bootscreen came up
where I could select which install type to go with, once I
picked an install type, the keyboard froze up. This
happens with the old debian installer as well, with every
kernel except the 2.2.20 default one.

Go into the BIOS and disable "USB Emulation" (its in there somewhere).
Your keyboard will work then.
