Bug#272523: Now it booted once, but still does not boot most of the time
Hello,
I now installed GRUB under Debian and now kernel-image.2.6.8-1-686
(version 2.6.8-3) booted once, and then even K3b recognized the Teac DVD
writer in the laptop - this didn't work with version 2.6.8-1 and 2. But
I tried three more times and it didn't boot again.
Now I am using 2.6.7-1-686 again. This one sometimes also does not boot,
but I have more look getting it to boot than 2.6.8-1, version 2.6.8-3. I
never had any problems to boot with 2.6.8-1, version 2.6.8-2 and 2.6.8-1,
but with these K3b isn't able to use the DVD burner.
This is the GRUB configuration I use now:
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.8-1-686
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.8-1-686 root=/dev/hda5 ro vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.8-1-686
savedefault
boot
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.7-1-686
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.7-1-686 root=/dev/hda5 ro vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.7-1-686
savedefault
boot
This is the versions of the grub package I use:
0.95+cvs20040624-8
Probably also important: Grub bootloader, kernel images and initrd files
are located on a XFS partition. But before I used the GRUB installation
from SuSE and this one is located on Reiserfs. Still the Debian kernel
always was on that XFS partition.
If you need any further tests, please let me know. I have 2.6.6, 2.6.7,
2.6.8, including version 2.6.8-3 (now installed) and 2.6.8-2, available
locally right now.
Regards,
