Ok, I'm now with Sarge/2.6.7 on the desktop/Tx, and with Sid/2.6.8-3 on the
laptop/Rx.
I have run many tests, all of them are bad : I still can't get more than
500kB/s with scp transfer, and it often stalls.
- I have disabled ipv6 (aliased to off in /etc/modprobe.d/aliases)
(BTW, I also had to uninstall ntpdate, because it was loading ipv6 even if
disabled...)
- I have tried every combination in mii-tool: 100Tx, 10T, FD and HD.
- I have disabled hotplug and discover, and booted in single user, so I had
the strict minimum modules loaded, and the minimum processes running. Then
I loaded via-rhine manually, started the network manually, and got the same
result on ssh transfer. Attached is the output of "lsmod" and "ps -ef" so
that you can see what was loaded and running.
- I also booted in init 2 (with hotplug and discover disabled) so that I
could get the kernel log (there is none in single user). Attached is the
content of kernel log.
- I also loaded via-rhine with debug=7, and I noticed the following message
during slow scp transfer :
eth0: Transmitter underrun, Tx threshold now e0.
eth0: Transmitter underrun, Tx threshold now e0.
eth0: Transmitter underrun, Tx threshold now e0.
