Try the attached. I can reproduce this problem at will on boot-up on a system with an ext3 root filesystem. For some reason, I ended up with an fstab that also tried to mount /boot as ext3 (it was built as ext2); in this configuration, /boot fails to mount with an error that ext3 is not supported by the kernel (the module is listed in lsmod output, but ext3 is not listed in /proc/filesystems). The kernel oops occurs regardless of which filesystem type it uses for /boot, however. -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer
ksymoops 2.4.9 on alpha 2.6.8-1-generic. Options used
-V (default)
-k /proc/ksyms (default)
-l /proc/modules (default)
-o /lib/modules/2.6.8-1-generic/ (default)
-m /boot/System.map-2.6.8-1-generic (default)
Warning: You did not tell me where to find symbol information. I will
assume that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running
right now and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get
more accurate output by telling me the kernel version and where to find
map, modules, ksyms etc. ksymoops -h explains the options.
Error (regular_file): read_ksyms stat /proc/ksyms failed
No modules in ksyms, skipping objects
No ksyms, skipping lsmod
