[Fwd: initrd question about kernel-image-2.6.6-1-k7]

I attempted to contact the package maintainer of the
kernel-image-2.6.6-1-k7 package and ask him my question but he instead
referred me to this list so I'm just forwarding that email to the list
server. Bottom line up front is I'd like info on the "right way or debian
way" of making the initrd.img images that are packaged with the kernels.
For more info of why I need to know how to do this, see the email below.
I've read the initrd.txt in the Kernel Documentation folder and I see the
value in mastering the initrd.

A smile comes to my face when I think of having one kernel for all kinds
of machines with different hardware etc. ... but trying to install EVMS
is what got me looking into understanding initrd.

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Hi,

I'm kind of new to the initrd.img way of booting. I need to build a
2.6.7-bk8 kernel (installing EVMS) and patch it etc.

Is there a easy way to create a initrd image like the one you made for the
2.6.6-1-k7 image? I want to understand how the initrd works and how to
create my own since EVMS has to use a initrd image to boot if you want the
EVMS manage volume to include the /boot and root.

I'm currently using kernel-image-2.6.6-1-k7 on a Asus A7N8X-VM/400 with
Athlon 2800+ and it works well.

I mounted the initrd.img-2.6.6-1-k7 and looked at it to try and figure it
out. How do I make a initrd.img for the 2.6.7-bk8 kernel I just built?
I'd like to make one just like the 2.6.6-1-k7 one.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Brian
