Bug#260333: PowerMac G3 (beige) installing kernel-image_powerpc_2.6.7-3 on sarge
Package: initrd-tools
After a fresh install using d-i sarge-powerpc_tc1 and bootX, I tried to
install the 2.6.7-3 kernel to replace 2.4.25. I got the usual warning
about putting initrd.img line in the boot loader. I checked that the
symlink was in /boot. I rebooted into the Mac side and put the 2.6
initrd.gz and vmlinux files into the Linux Kernels folder in the System
Folder. Appended "initrd=/boot/initrd.img" to BootX's kernel arguments,
rebooted into Linux and got the following error (I don't know how to
extract any log messages from the machine and so I copied it):
cannot open root device "hda6" or unknown block (0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkown block (0,0)
I get the same error without appending the initrd argument
Regards
Clive
