IMHO, mkinitrd should strip these symbols.
Something like this ..:
$ find $WHEREVER/lib/modules/*/kernel -name \*.ko -print0 | xargs -0r strip --strip-debug --remove-section =.comment --remove-section=.note --remove-section=.note.GNU-stack
=> reassign bug to mkinitrd?
