_If_ you actually have something to merge it's more initial work.  But
less maintaince because there's just one codebase to patch.

Yes.

a) less maintaince overhead for the security team
b) kernel-patch packages always work cross-plattform
c) debian actually has one codebase and one set of bugs over all
   architectures
d) better exposure of arch patches.  if an architecture patch touches
   common code it doesn't need review.  chances are very high it's
   either also needed for other architectures or bogus.
