Do you also use POP3? How much mail do you have?
My figures are:
martin@merkaba:~> du -sh ~/.local/share/local-mail
8,3G /home/martin/.local/share/local-mail
martin@merkaba:~> find ~/.local/share/local-mail -type f | wc -l
627499
I have mail indexing enabled currently.
