Yes.
Go to Settings -> Configure Desktop Sharing
In the Security 'tab', check 'Allow uninvited connections' and specify a
password. You'd have to use that password when connecting.

File a 'wishlist' type bug to make the limit configurable, the current limit of
1 hr is indeed rather useless.
