Unmount of USB Device from Dolphin Fails

I am running squeeze with the KDE version from squeeze. When I try to unmount
an USB device from dolphin, I get

org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.NotMountedByHal: Device to unmount is not in
/media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted by HAL

I have gvfs installed

blackbox:~# aptitude search gvfs|grep -e ^i
i gvfs - userspace virtual filesystem - server
i A gvfs-backends - userspace virtual filesystem - backends

due to dependency requirements.

Any idea what is going wrong and how I may fix it?

An "umount <mount dir>" with root permissions from konsole works well.
