trying to install kde 3.3.1

Hi list,

I am trying to install kde 3.3.1. As I didn't saw it in the debian packages, I downloaded konstruct-stable.tar.bz2 which is claiming to install fully kde. In my case it was not the case. After some compilation, it stopped with error:

checking for GLib-2.0 (at least 1.3.3)... not installed
configure: error:
       Please install glib-2.0 (see http://www.gtk.org).
make[3]: *** [configure-work/arts-1.3.1/configure] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/Temp/konstruct/libs/arts'
make[2]: *** [dep-../../libs/arts] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/Temp/konstruct/kde/kdelibs'
make[1]: *** [dep-../../kde/kdelibs] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/Temp/konstruct/kde/kdebase'
make: *** [dep-../../kde/kdebase] Error 2

but i have installed:
dpkg -l | grep glib
ii glibc-doc 2.3.2.ds1-18 GNU C Library: Documentation
ii libarts1-mpegl 3.2.2-1 mpeglib is a mp3 and mpeg I video/audio libr ii libdb1-compat 2.1.3-7 The Berkeley database routines [glibc 2.0/2.
ii libglib1.2 1.2.10-9 The GLib library of C routines
ii libglib2.0-0 2.4.7-1 The GLib library of C routines
ii mpeglib 3.2.2-1 mp3 and mpeg I video/audio library for linux

And something esle: Where I have to install it to be on the "old" kde version? I try installing it in /usr/local/, setting the variables in /etc/zsh/zshenv, but still the old kde is started.

In general, is there a (detail) guide how-to install (upgrade) kde?

         Cheers, Ivan
