The archive still seems to work.  Apologies for being so apt-clueless.

Exactly.  :)

Joseph Carter (libsdl maintainer) is going to wait for the upstream
1.2.5 release, then make new packages for unstable.  Hopefully that will
make these packages unnecessary.
