chat.yahoo.com w/ java does not work

I've been trying for a few days with no success to get
the java 'chat' applet to work when trying to chat
through http://chat.yahoo.com

At first had the problems that java ssl was not
present. Read the
http://www.konqueror.org/konq-java.html, downloaded
the sun jsse and copied jcert.jar, jnet.jar, and
jsse.jar to /usr/share/apps/kjava. This fixed the java
ssl not working.

But am still left with the following error in
konqueror's java console:

Java VM version: 1.3.0
Java VM vendor: IBM Corporation
java.lang.ClassFormatError:
netscape/javascript/JSObject (Bad magic number)
	at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass0(Native Method)
	at
java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:496)
	at
java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(SecureClassLoader.java:117)
	at
org.kde.kjas.server.KJASAppletClassLoader.findClass(KJASAppletClassLoader.java:314)
	at
org.kde.kjas.server.KJASAppletClassLoader.loadClass(KJASAppletClassLoader.java:335)
	at y.ch.34.<init>(Unknown Source)
	at y.ch.0.init(Unknown Source)
	at
org.kde.kjas.server.KJASAppletStub.initApplet(KJASAppletStub.java:145)
	at
org.kde.kjas.server.KJASAppletStub$1.run(KJASAppletStub.java:98)
	at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:498)

I tried using the Blackdown jre, and it gives exactly
the same error except that Java VM vendor: field is
different.

I feel like somehow I'm missing some netscape jar or
pluggin, but when I try to have konqueror "look" for
new pluggins either in netscape's or mozilla's plugin
directory, it doesn't pick up anything new. Have added
the jre's plugin so that it is listed in konqueror.

Also installed libnsp but this didn't make any
difference.

Currently I have woody installed.

Help !

Thanks,
geoff Brimhall
