Upgraded KDE2.0 -> KDE2.1, now can't start

I upgraded my KDE last night using "apt-get install kdebase task-kde"
and now KDE won't start.  KDM starts, but when a user tries to login, I
get the following error: 

"Startup program /etc/X11/kdm/Xstartup_0 exited with a non-zero status. 
Please contact your system administrator. Please press OK to retry."

Retrying doesn't help.

Any ideas on what I can try to get things working again?
