This post involves managing a large Linux cluster in a friendly academic
environment. The cluster is Red Hat/Scientific Linux/Fedora slanted but I
am a Debian fanatic myself!
The desk for this post is adjacent to mine so I have a vested interest in

The Particle Physics Research Centre at Queen Mary, University of London
has a vacancy for a Senior Cluster System Manager to manage the Centre's
High Throughput computing facilities and to contribute to its integration
within the GridPP project. The post is funded by a STFC Grant and is
available immediately. The initial contract will be until 31 March 2011,
with the possibility of renewal thereafter.
The initial salary, including London allowance, will be in the range
33,492 - 39,430 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
The Centre is involved in a number of running and future Particle Physics
experiments including major commitments to the ATLAS experiment at the
LHC. In order to support these activities the Group has installed a large,
Linux based, High Throughput Computing Cluster. It is intended to continue
to expand this facility in the coming years. The Cluster currently
comprises 1408 processors and 400 TB of storage. The successful candidate
will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Cluster's
hardware and software, its future development and the development and
deployment of Grid software.
Please note that in accordance with all other roles affected by the
National Pay Framework, the grade and salary are subject to confirmation
following the job evaluation exercise and the overall refinement of the
Queen Mary grading structure.
