After re-checking the old package, I solved this now by patching out the
compilation of the classes that use xmlrpc from pom.xml. This only was
needed for some tests, and would in any case pull a rather big chain of
dependencies.
I also disabled the build time tests now, since they require network
access.
So, finally, I could migrate to Maven; thanks for your hint!
Only remaining question now: how can I run the tests defined in Maven as
CI tests?
