Package: default-jdk Version: 1.5-30 Severity: important This package's name sounds as if it would provide the default Debian Java development kit, but that's exactly what the package doesn't do. In fact, I find it difficult to use "aptitude search java" or anything similar to find out which package to install to be able to do java <class> I have been using Debian as a programmer for many years but Java seems to be hidden somewhere. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24.4 (SMP w/1 CPU core; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages default-jdk depends on: ii default-jre 1.5-30 Standard Java or Java compatible R ii java-gcj-compat-dev 1.0.78-2 Java runtime environment with GCJ default-jdk recommends no packages. default-jdk suggests no packages. -- debconf-show failed
