Teresa,

Sun's Java installers install nothing else but Sun Java.

1) Remove any non Sun Java packages (with the exception of GCJ 
possibly, because your operating system might have components which 
require it), esp. that SableVM thing should you find it in the 
package management stuff of your operating system.

2) Remove Sun Java, revert all the steps you have taken to install 
it via java.com's instructions, including PATH fiddling, setting 
CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME and whatever else.

3) Install Sun Java via the package management of your operating system.

4) Make sure to use your operating system's functionality to 
"switch" to/make Sun Java the default Java implementation on your 
computer.
