I made some small experiments in packaging maven2. A minor problem is
that some of maven2's dependency use maven2 as build tool.
(plexus-utils, plexus-archiver, e.g.). I'd suggest to upload a initial
release of this libraries built with a custom ant build file. This is
how libplexus-utils is built.

I was able to build an experimental package of maven2 by feeding the
bootstrapper a custom repository where the jar files are links to the
installed versions already packaged for debian
(/usr/share/java/junit.jar -> debian/repository/junit/3.8/junit-3.8jar)
