We have no way to debug, study or modify the code from the Sun's VM,
that's why, even if Debian make it easier to install the VM, Debian does
not support non-free software (aka Sun's and IBM's VM).

Does other versions of eclipse work? Did you tried the packaged version
of Eclipse? Maybe you could have better results with the packaged
Eclipse running on free software... Drop us a note of the evolution of
your problem.

Maybe it's a problem because of different compilers between JRE and GTK?
I don't know.
