~ We would have to build the SWT libraries from source, which is going
to be part of the work of the Debian Eclipse Packaging project. There
have been problems with building the SWT libraries on non-x86
architectures; those interested can read through Eclipse Bug# 57897[0].
~ I would not agree with pursuing SWT over Swing, either. I haven't
worked with it yet, but what I was told by a peer who does more GUI
development than I do was that SWT reintroduces memory management into
GUI programming rather than relegating that to the JRE's garbage
collection scheme.
~ My opinion is admittedly influenced by my experience on the job
working with the full line of IBM's Java product offerings. I
originally had further comment on the issue, but at the risk of getting
off-topic I have removed it.
