IMAP implementation in JAVA

Hey guys,
just wondering if anyone knows of a good IMAP server implementation in JAVA.
I tried to read the RCF document but I being so new to all this, could not
make much sense out of it. I was hence hoping to learn by example.
Basically I am hoping to write a IMAP server proxy for gmail using the JAVA
API provided at http://sourceforge.net/projects/g4j/.
If someone would/can help me with this, I would appreciate it since this will
give me a good chance to learn some socket stuff(I hope).
As a fallback, we could also implement a POP server at first(though I think
IMAP is much better...though I hear much harder to implement) so that one can
atleast read their mail thru mutt...;). We can then look to implement a IMAP
server.
Let me know.
Thanks
