ma non ho capito, non hai nulla in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts?

cosa dice:
$ ls -R /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts

Se non erro, da Lenny, i font sono stati spostati in /usr/share/fonts/X11, ma nella directory /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts dovrebbero esserci dei file che elencano i font.

Per cercare pacchetti che contengono un dato elemento puoi usare apt-file

con il seguente comando elenchi i pacchetti che contengono i fond 100dpi

$ apt-file search /fonts/X11/100dpi/ | cut -f 1 -d " " | uniq

quindi penso ti manchi ad esempio: xfonts-100dpi-transcoded

cosa dice
$ dpkg -l xfonts-100dpi-transcoded
