Grazie per la risposta Lucio.

In effetti anche a me sembrava inutile usare ndiswrapper per una scheda
che a quanto pare ha 2 o 3 mod(ul)i differenti che potrebbero farla andare!

Ho provato a documentarmi un po' sul firmware delle Prism e sono
capitato su queste pagine [1] che mi hanno fatto risolvere il problema.

La mia scheda è una prism "Generic ISL3886", che quindi:

> If you have a PCI softmac card, please use this firmware: XH8196 driver firmware and copy it to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/isl3886

Da ciò ne ho derivato un semplice:

> # cd /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/
> /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware# wget http://jbnote.free.fr/prism54usb/data/firmwares/3886lmac_2.7.0.0.arm
> /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware# mv 3886lmac_2.7.0.0.arm isl3886

All'avvio, dopo aver blacklistato il modulo ndiswrapper e modprobbato
p54pci e p54common, l'interfaccia wlan0 appare correttamente.

Accidenti però che faticaccia per trovare la soluzione! :D

Grazie per avermi spinto a non demordere (non avrevo proprio pensato che
oltre al modulo, c'era da trovare una soluzione per il firmware!)
