apache (e apache-ssl) problemi con php

firefox http://ip_server mi visualizza correttamente le pagine php.
firefox https://ip_server mi visualizza: you have chosen to open which is a:
PHTML file from https://ip_server
in /etc/apache-ssl/httpd.conf:
<IfModule mod_dir.c>
DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml index.cgi index.php
</IfModule>
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
la pagina web con <? phpinfo(); ?> funziona correttamente (sia con apache che
con apache-ssl)
anche con dpkg-reconfigure apache-ssl e controllando i moduli php ho lo stesso
problema.
Da ricerche ho letto che potrebbero essere gli script php a creare problemi,
ma visto che ho squirrelmail installato e con apache funziona mentre
apache-ssl no, presumo sia un problema di configurazione.
Idee?
